Freedom of “Religion,” or of “Ideology?”

The Ground-Zero mosque proposal has fueled needed discussion about Islam, particularly relating to the global objectives of Islam. As one who has studied Islam, and has worked to warn people of its insidiousness, I am pleased to witness this new discussion. I hope that the discussion progresses from mere soundbites to a serious examination of what Islamists are trying to do; which is to conquer the world for “Allah.” This is the message of the Quran.

Though some people appear to be waking up to the truth about Islam,  many others remain uninformed. For example, many people, including our President and the mayor of New York City, have cited “freedom of religion” in defense of the construction of the 15 story (13 above ground and 2 below) Ground Zero mosque. By invoking the First Amendment in this case, such people show a lack of understanding of (or dishonesty in the representation of) Islam. They suggest that Islam is a mere spiritual endeavor. They fail to consider the degree of political and physical control of people that Islamists presently have throughout the world.

Islam is more than just a religion: It is an ideology. The Quran contains rules, regulations and prohibitions that control every aspect of ones life and conduct. This is the basis of Sharia law. The word “sharia” means “the path” or “the way.” Through the Quran, Islam directs and controls one’s “way” upon the earth, socially, civilly and spiritually. This makes Islam more than just a religion, and puts it at odds with the US Constitution. The civil laws of the Quran contradict the US Constitution. The two are utterly incompatible. Many Americans may choose to ignore this reality, but Muslims are steadily gaining a foothold in the United States.

Barack Obama and others are presently invoking the Constitution’s 1st Amendment in defense of the construction of the Ground Zero mosque: Ironically, the Quran DOES NOT ALLOW freedom of religion! This disparity screams to us the truth that Islam is more than just a religion – it is a political ideology.

The history of the expansion of Islam throughout the earth tells us three important things:

  1. Along with being a religion, Islam is a political and ideological system.
  2. Once a nation has been conquered “in the name of Allah,” Islam is established as the state religion.
  3. Countries that are conquered by Islamists have great difficulty freeing themselves of the shackles of Islamic rule. (Offhand, I cannot think of a single country that has been able to renounce Islam after having been conquered by Islamists.)

Those of us who are Bible believers have several theological and doctrinal reasons for rejecting and refuting Islam. However, anyone who loves liberty has good reason to reject Islam, for it exerts a fascist-like control over people, robbing them of their freedoms. Many New Yorkers are presently hoping to prevent the construction of the Ground Zero mosque, but the fact is that we ought to reject the construction of ALL mosques, for there is far more to consider than just “freedom of religion.” With Islam, one is actually dealing with an ideology that is incompatible with the American way of life and the religious freedom that we cherish.

While the Constitution definitely defends the right of freedom of religious expression, it does not defend violations of its own principles and provisions. It does not defend ideologies that are antithetical to the Constitution itself!

  1. It is amazing to me how the Left believes that the Constitution is out of touch with our modern world, yet they vigorously defend Islam. Sharia law is far more strict and oppressive than the Constitution they bemoan.

  2. I agree with the above comment. Stalin would also support Islam, for as long as their fight weakens American imperialism. But he would be ready to fight with them later.

  3. [...] Tim pointed out in a previous post, Islam is more than a religion: it is an ideology. If Muslims want to engage in their religious practices and traditions, they are free to do so. [...]
