That first sentence really explains in plain language what the anti-gun, pro-gun control crowd does - use their first amendment right to attack those who practice their second amendment right.

What they fail to see is that the second amendment is what secures all other rights and liberties. Those who would wish to turn this country into a dictatorship or fascist state must take away the right to bear arms before they can take away the others. Once the right to bear arms for self-defense is taken away, the people become dependent upon the state for their protection, both from criminals and the government itself. Then the state is free to do whatever they want and demand whatever they want from the people, and the people have no way to defend their God-given liberties.

I found this quote from Elbridge Gerry, Massachusetts Representative (1744-1814): "Whenever governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins."

And what is the militia? "It is the whole body of the people except for a few public officials" (George Mason).

If the right to bear arms is taken away, guns will still exist. But they will only be in the hands of the government and the criminals. Regular citizens will then become enslaved to one of those two groups. If individuals do not have the right to self-defense, every single liberty we have is in jeopardy.

Sorry, didn't mean to add an article in response to this article. It's just that the Supreme Court's narrow 5-4 ruling recently on the second amendment shows just how close we might be to losing our freedoms. That ruling should have been unanimous in favor of the right of individuals to bear arms, yet 4 out of 9 justices voted against it. It's very disturbing.
