A new Gallup poll shows an increase in the percentage of people who identify themselves as “conservatives.” 40% call themselves conservative, 36% call themselves moderate, and 20% call themselves liberal. This reflects a change from 2005-2008, when the percentage of conservatives equalled the percentage of moderates. What is responsible for this shift?
I suggest that it is the Obama administration. Perhaps some people are beginning to see just how slippery the slope of progressivism really is. In just a few short months our government has taken over banks, insurance companies and a chunk of the auto industry. It is attempting to regulate the CEO pay of both TARP and non-TARP companies. It is working frantically to take over one sixth of the US economy in the form of government provided/regulated health care. Those who most speak out against these practices, including talk radio and FOX News, are villainized and attacked, which proves that free speech and first amendment rights are being challenged. Second amendment rights are also being challenged.
These actions have some people concerned. They are beginning to back away from Obama’s ideology and direction, and they know that there is only one other viable social and economic option: conservatism! So, thanks, Mr. Obama, and please continue illustrating to the American people the devastating consequences of marxism. We are watching and learning.
