The National Institute of Health has determined that guns are a health risk. Upon hearing of this I immediately considered the possibility of the conflation of this newly alleged “health risk” with a potential government take-over of health care. By classifying guns (effects of gun violence) as a “health risk,” and then expanding government interference and involvement in health care, the way is prepared for gun control through health care mandates.
Before you dismiss my warning as the paranoia of a “gun clinger,” let me remind you of what we have witnessed in just the past week: The Obama administration has made an all-out assault upon Fox News, talk radio and the internet. The First Amendment and free speech are clearly under attack. Though it is something that we are not comfortable admitting, in our day the gun is the last line of defense in protecting personal rights, including one’s right to free speech. It is a great equalizer. Ultimately (and history is replete with examples of this being done) the government will have to remove guns from the hands of ordinary citizens if it is to assume absolute control over those citizens. Through ammunition control and classifying guns as a “health risk,” the government can achieve what has been thus far impossible – the negation of the second amendment.
Incidentally, if guns are a health risk, then so are highways, cars, rocks, knives, hammers, saws and baseball bats! The point being, of course, that the gun poses no risk whatsoever until it is used by someone. The real “health risks” are the criminals who misuse guns, not the guns themselves.
