Of the four cities being considered, Chicago was the first to be eliminated in voting. Apparently, the star power of President Obama and first lady Michelle was not enough to persuade voters.
At a time when the commander-in-chief needs to be acting in earnest to help his military commanders win the war in Afghanistan, Obama believes that bringing the Olympics to Chicago is much more important. Even though General Stanley McChrystal requested more troops over a month ago, Obama still needs several more weeks to evaluate the request. But he can drop everything at a moment’s notice to fly to Copenhagen to campaign for Chicago’s bid to the International Olympic Committee. This is another example of Obama’s warped sense of priorities for the office of the President.
While the Left certainly has no problem with Obama ignoring the needs of our military in Afghanistan, I wonder if they appreciate what Obama’s lobbying for the Olympics meant for the environment. There is an interesting article today from the Heritage Foundation on this point. Here are some excerpts from that article:
“Michelle Obama flew to Denmark on Wednesday to pitch Chicago as the host city for the 2016 Olympics. President Obama arrived in Copenhagen this morning to make his own pitch, saying that it could repair the American image. [...] Two people. Two planes. Three days. That’s not very green.”
“…if President Obama believes what he says that global warming is a near-term, imminent threat, couldn’t the First Couple have flown on one Air Force One together?”
“Using an additional plane emitted 434,726 pounds of carbon into the air. [...] An Escalade emits 16,797 pounds of carbon per year. [...] So, taking an additional plane to lobby for the Olympics to come to Chicago is equivalent to driving an Escalade for nearly 26 years.”

Will the environmentalists express outrage over this? Or do their rules not apply to other liberals?
